June 18, 2025Have you ever opened your fridge, smelled your leftovers, and wondered, “Is this still okay to eat?” Behind that simple question lies a hidden world of invisible activity.
Even after cooking, microbes can enter food and grow on it. As they do, they release gases and smells chemical signals that reveal how fresh or spoiled the food is.
In Serenade Project PhD candidate Revathy Gurusamy’s research, she studies these microbes and the gases they produce using advanced tools. By tracking these changes, we aim to develop smart fridge containers that monitor food freshness and help reduce food waste.
Join her for a journey into the secret life of leftovers, and discover what your food is trying to tell you!
